- I’m a beginner witch. What’s the first spell I should learn?
Before you get to doing any spellwork, I want you to practice cleansing first and foremost and get into a little rhythm with that. Simplest form of cleansing is bathing in salt-water. It must be sea salt. When you don’t have a bath, you can use a bowl. Fill with water and salt. Have your shower/bath to actually wash properly. A cleanse is not the same thing as having a bath. You want to already be clean, so this is a two phase process.
Before you begin the cleansing portion, you call your energy back verbally. “I call my energy back from all every person, person, project and projection. My energy rightfully returns to me”.
Then we pray over the salt-water concoction, I like to stir the water in the bowl or bath clockwise as I speak. The prayer should sound like; I declare that as the water washes over me, I am cleansed of all negativity. Anything that does not belong to me. Any negative thoughts, feelings, observations and projections. I like to end my prayer my saying into the water, “I am cleansed. I am cleansed. I am cleansed.” Always remember there is magic in repetition. You don’t have to understand what that means now, but you will. Pour the water over you, or soak in the bath. You can choose between the following endings; you air dry, you wipe but only top bottom without going backwards or you just finish as normal and seal it with an affirmation. It’s all about intention.
I ask you to cleanse because you want to do magic from a clean vessel. The best day to cleanse is Saturday (Saturn Day) or Monday (Moon day). For at least a fortnight, cleanse as often as your intuition decides. I want you to learn to notice the magic in the subtlety. I want you to notice that you are gaining vitality, that you are clearer in the mind and sharper in the gut. Learning to notice the small things, helps you interpret your spellwork later. Once that’s done, we learn a protection spell. There are so many, experiment. Go for the ones that just sound right to you. Normally the best magic is uncomplicated and resourceful. Don’t fall for the gimmicky stuff where you need to get all these materials that you have to import from other countries because it’s unavailable near you. Improvise. Magic is about intention. These are the foundations from which any other spellwork must lay upon.
2. What’s something I can do every day to feel more powerful?
Dressing with intention. Same with makeup. As you are doing the same old skincare routine, you can change thing up by affirming yourself. You don’t have to speak out loud if that makes you feel mad, but I expect you to be in the mirror taking a few extra seconds to rub in your moisturiser with care. Learn magical correspondence or use your own intuition to dress specifically for what would make you feel powerful that day. You need to practice asking yourself that.
I literally feel repelled by clothes that don’t match my vibration for the day. Dressing with intention, infuses me with more confidence – which everyone notices when I enter a room. Dressing can be your armour in a very magical way. Find a balance between dressing for all fashion rules like body type, colour season and dressing for own intrinsic joy. You may have been told that you suit more of a pale yellow than a mustard yellow, but if mustard yellow is what brings you joy then it would be silly to listen to that advice – wouldn’t you say? There’s more to life than aesthetic harmony as described by society. Who made those standards anyway? How much would they hold up if we tried to explain them to an alien?
3. How do I manifest more pleasure without shame?
Start leaning into doing more pleasureful activities. Write down your desires. Are there things that you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t allowed yourself too? List those. You can use your jealousy as a compass. Normally we are jealous because we want something and we are annoyed we don’t have it. When we look at things that way, we can have less shame because we realise jealousy isn’t a sin. It’s just information to be interpreted. The activities that you haven’t done and feel a resistance to, start being brutally honest with yourself about why. Then try doing them slowly, one by one and at your won pace. You can manifest all you want, but if you don’t clear the cobwebs – it’s a waste of progress.
Manifesting pleasure is about tuning into the frequency. When you do, you signal to the universe that this is your vibe, so the universe sends more things aligned with the vibe. So all those so-called ‘guilty pleasures’, start owning them. Stop hiding them and start declaring them as yours. If you like Reality TV, don’t soften the blow on a man’s account. State it. Declare it. Make it yours. Enjoy it so shamelessly, that you start hearing whispers of more.
4. Is it wrong to want luxury and still be spiritual?
No, because humans weren’t made to suffer. Ideally, we should all be experiencing some sort of luxury. The problem is people seeing luxury as one dimensional. Luxury isn’t about you living in a castle by yourself, with servants running around for you. Luxury should be about more access, more intentional purchases but conscious of excess. Hoarding wealth is anti-spiritual to me, that’s my personal opinion. Luxury can come in the form of having community that makes your life easier on the day to day, because they shoulder your burdens.
5. How can I protect my energy without always doing full rituals?
I tell ya, sometimes we overcomplicate things. A ritual to me can be me listening to music in the vibration I need, and making a new Pinterest board. You don’t have to do a 20 step elaborate ritual. In the example I gave I am amplifying energy by having music as well as visuals of what I want to manifest. All that yearning, excitement and bliss you feel as you do that task, you’re sending flares into the universe. This is one of my favourite, most chill way to manifest something I desire.
Here’s another easy sequence for someone preserving their energy. You might cleanse with a pre-prepared spritz, while wearing your favourite protective crystal (say obsidian/haematite/smokey quartz etc) and make a tea. Stir the tea while whispering your intentions. Clockwise or anticlockwise depending on if you are ushering something in ore ushering it out. Repetition is always useful. Drink that tea, while envisioning the desired outcome.
6. What should I do when I feel blocked or disconnected from my power?
Meditate. Journal. Pray. Go on walks. Do some yoga. Do it without expectation of a particular outcome by a particular timeframe. Just stay open. Don’t beat yourself up about it, it could be you’re being shielded from something. Always remember everything is happening for your benefit in some way.
7. What’s the most underrated witchy tip you know?
My favourite “Return to sender spell”. Opening a tap until it’s running in that strong guttural way, use pure intention, venom in your voice (you need to conjure the emotion for this to be potent) and you declare that anything that has been sent to you consciously or unconsciously that is not for your highest and greatest good be returned to sender. It works an absolute treat. Great if you’re being bullied.
May your spells be simple, and your abundance plentiful.
