Everything in life as we know it operates in cycles. Everything from politics, to menstruation to economics. As such, as a human race we have been pendulum swinging from conservatism to progressiveness. Sometimes on the way forward, we must still take a few steps back – something I know leftists struggle to swallow. Every time we make some pretty humongous progress socially and economically, there will be right-wingers and extremists ready to freakout to correct this trajectory.
That is why is unsurprising that Trump was ever elected after Obama. How would the right-wingers sleep at night, knowing that a man that wasn’t 100% Caucasian ever made it into the White House. It doesn’t matter that he is only half Black, and appropriately blue-blooded in that all American presidents are related. What mattered was that Obama was a pretty humongous symbol of how far America has gone from its roots in the genocide of its First Nations people, and the slavery that funded and erected modern America as it is today.
The United States measures time in trauma, with each century being marked by rebellion. As we trace conflict throughout American history, we can observe well-documented patterns of contraction and expansion. For example from the 1860’s to 1870’s it was considered ‘reconstruction’, a time where racial reforms took place with a lot more Black politicians entering public office. Then, 1870’s to the 1950’s is the infamous Jim Crow era, the height of White Supremacy. Segregation, obedience enforced through violence, the advent of Black neighbourhoods of which the successful ones were torched. Lynching a commonplace form of dehumanisation. Deaths made spectacle.
The Civil Rights Movement came about as the next cycle which lasted from 1950’s to the 1970’s. Of course as this movement was genuinely gaining a lot traction, and media attention, there was an equal and opposite reaction in the Southern Strategy. A political tactic utilised by the Republican party from the late 60’s which repackaged racism, into a matter of ‘law and order’. This was the time for racist dog whistles, for White people to be sold the story that their racism was simply a matter of ‘values’. This is the era of terms like ‘welfare queens’ used to target and subjugate Black women.
Somewhere along the way, America elects its first Black president. Though I do want it noted that Barack Obama is a mixed race man, as such that should away be taken into account as to his ability to ever make into that Oval Office. Though, I do understand America and the ‘one drop rule’ classifications. For America, a land built on racism to have ever allowed an articulate Black man to attain that level of visibility Obama had, while inspiring hope in the lives of people internationally… can you think of a bigger nightmare for a racist-institution? White supremacists ultimately have the fear of becoming a minority and becoming subjugated, the way they have subjugated others. This is because they genuinely think other groups have that same level of bloodthirst. It also comes from ignorance of other cultures and other ways of life.
Let me take you through what I have noticed over the years mixed a channelled transmission from my ancestors. As far as I am concerned, humanity has been waking up. We have never been more concerned about things happening all over the world. We are if anything, overly informed on the issues happening around the world. We can experience a helplessness because we are experiencing all sorts of oppression all over the world. I know my family members in Zimbabwe might envision Australians living these charmed lives because of the country’s GDP, but every place has it’s sickness. We may presently understand progressive ideas in greater depth, but the issue is in implementation. And the implementation issue is rooted in old governments and old ideals (from the older generation still living).
As everything operates in cycles, we’re never going to see a straight upward trend into progress, it is imply unrealistic. There will be peaks and there will be troughs. Yes, when Obama came into power we started seeing right-wing groups pop-up internationally. In Europe, in Australia and in America for example. It’s cause and effect. I have been watching Trump supporters get disillusioned like dominos, since his 2nd term started. This was inevitable as Trump is not a smart man, he is simply a charismatic one. A charismatic man, does not a leader make. Not that alone anyway. The fragmentation and the simmering tensions in the United States have become so public, and so have their failures. Now they must reckon amongst themselves, to create an identity not so rooted in performance.
America as a country has a Cancer sun which tells us that there’s a strong emotional connection to the country’s roots or origin story. America also has it’s Chiron in Aries in the 4th house. This shows a wound tied to identity, belonging and having built this country through conquest. That is the wound we see playing out on the public stage. America postured itself, in typical Sagittarius rising fashion, by selling us all on its big ideas and ideals. Like a door-knock salesman. As such, they are the perfect case study for societal trends, with their population of 340 million.
As I have said everything is cyclical, as such Astrologers have been highlighting that this Uranus in Gemini transit we entered into on the 7th of July, has marked pivotal US conflicts historically. When we have entered this transit previously it aligned with; the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and World War II. As such, it is possible that America is headed towards a civil war. With Neptune entering Aries, we are looking at an ideological standoff between the old and the new. I bring this up, not to fearmonger but to express how wherever America is going, I believe to ultimately be heading towards progress. It will not be easy-won progress and many leftists like myself are naturally pacifist. However, you cannot respond to fascism with peace talks. A strong hand must be taken. Power must be exerted, even if it is only to be guided in the right direction.
I believe Americans are very much waking up to class consciousness. Which is important because focusing on things like race is a great distraction from holding the wealthy accountable. For the wealth they hoard, or the taxes they simply don’t pay. I believe the intentional suppression of education in the US, has been rivalled by evolving technology and evolving humans. Now through social media apps like Tiktok you have awareness being spread, unregulated without governmental approval. Hence all the moves the US has made to target Tiktok. The government wants to ultimately be the ones in control of the propaganda. They don’t want your narratives out there waking the collective. And yet it has happened anyway, the same way the gossip networks have always been the stealthy enemy of patriarchy. Here’s the part where it gets interesting.
Through my divination session spirit told me something that gave me chills. Many of us alive at this time, have been reincarnated. We are the spiritual descendants of those who fought before us in other fights to liberate. We (some) are the ones who vowed to return and help make things right. As soon as I heard that it sat so strongly in my body. The way I feel about justice, about philosophy, about righting the wrongs that exist in this world feels larger than me. It always has since I was a child, whispering and making promises to the stars. Many of our ancestors whether they be women, or anyone of colour, have had to bear dehumanisation. But the spirit is strong, and the fight isn’t over.
I believe America is resisting a new identity. The old, white people in power are afraid of their descendants mixing blood with others. They are afraid of everything they held so tightly – especially where land and money are concerned – possibly being rearranged in a way that doesn’t satisfy their greed. To agree to a different kind of America, one that doesn’t glorify its violent past, and doesn’t overlook the violent appropriation economy they have built whole structures upon (stealing Black culture AND labour) – would be destabilising to those that have been benefitting. For them to have to share resources, instead of just withholding them at will and distributing amongst ‘their own’, feels hellish. Fairness feels like oppression to the privileged.
What this means for race relations is, continue to educate those around you. Continue to show empathy, continue to strategise. Where Americans are concerned, I recommend continuing to build community especially within the neighbourhoods you reside and especially within your own socioeconomic class. In person and online. I find the White supremacist groups, just like the far right-wing, are just the loudest in the social sphere. It doesn’t make them the most impactful.
Australia has a habit of importing American trends and political directions, but with a time lag. Australians amongst themselves are always saying Australia is at least a decade behind America in genuine progress, and a decade is being generous. Between the years 1900’s to the 1970’s Australia had the White Australia Policy. This legislated racial exclusion, Australia’s own version of Jim Crow segregation, but specifically aimed at immigration. Even after formally ending the policy Australia was still absorbing racial narratives from across the pond, and maintaining unspoken racial divide. As with America itself, Australia profited off of the very Black bodies they were trying to suppress.
We imported the jazz, the streetwear, Black slang as we still do in the modern day – but failed to uplift the people who made this possible. In Australia, we got to export Indigenous talent in the meantime during the White Australia policy by the way. Artists like; Albert Namatjira a pioneering watercolorist and Yirawala a bark painter. Sporting talent like Nova Peris and Cathy Freeman, were able to rise to prominence once the formal policy restrictions had been loosened. Australia effectively erased the potential of Indigenous cultural and athletic talent, all in the name of preserving Whiteness. At the expense of Black lives that were already killed to make room for the Australians who now get to call themselves generationally Australian.
In the 1970’s-80 Australia followed in America’s footsteps with Reagan-era economics, which spread privatisation and the slow hollowing of public services. When Obama was elected, for those who keep an eye on politics – positive waves arose all over the world. Including Julia Gillard who got elected 18 months after Obama. It was a time where people were flirting with the idea that real change was possible. We were seeing articulate leaders, ideas that leaned progressive those some were still quite centrist – but the progress was glorious. I remember how emotional I felt both times Obama was elected, and I’m not even American. It was a symbol for us all, especially those keenly aware of racial injustice – to see a man reach an office our people would have been killed before stepping into.
Just as in America, social media is changing the game for young Australians. We are more and more aware that we are not experiencing something unique in this country. We are learning from people and countries that are a few paces ahead of us. Younger Australians, especially First Nations Australians and second-generation migrant youth are building coalitions similar to American grassroots movements. We have The Voice Campaign, which aimed to have a body that advises the Australian government on Indigenous matters. This campaign may have confused the general public in some cases, however in the lead up to voting, migrant communities were critical allies to the Indigenous Australians.
A yes vote was considered to be a stand against the systemic racism faced by both groups. We have an Indigenous protest group called Camp Sovereign which fights injustice. They are well supported by migrant communities, especially in the fight for Palestine and West Papua. So, the more that we copy America’s conservatism, the more we import American -style resistance movements. We import the sickness and the antidote, often without realising it’s arriving on the same ship. As you can tell from the 60’s and 70’s, Indigenous Australians learnt a lot from African Americans protesting. This was adopted in ways that fit the Black Australian climate.
It is not new for us to learn from other countries, to find the right verbiage for experiences we have had, but have not unearthed. This is why I always say there is nothing inherently wrong with gossip. Gossip is how people share information, and when you have governments that care to suppress information – it disrupts their agenda. While what we have been doing has worked thus far, what would Australia be like, if we listened to our own brightest voices? Decided to make changes benefiting our citizens first and foremost, regardless what happens in England or America? What would that kind of Australia truly feel like?
Don’t allow yourself to become defeatist and think your voice doesn’t matter. If those women hadn’t marched for us a few decades ago, us women would still only have bank accounts signed off by a male guardian. If my ancestors hadn’t fought British colonialists, Zimbabwe would still be called Rhodesia. We may have had a better reputation with Western countries but at the cost of our dignity, our peace and our culture.
Australia has a hell of a long way to go with race relations that’s for sure. Especially a move from performative progress, to genuine bridging of cultures. However, my Jupiterian nature says we have this in the bag. We need to keep pushing. We need to keep learning and adjusting. If the fascists change strategies, so do we. We never become complacent. Fighting for our rights, fighting for equality and a world that is safe for all is worth every battle. I have prophesied in this piece, and I have drudged up old bones – dusting them for your review. Let me words inspire your heart to movement. Let your ancestors speak through, act through you and fight through you. Let no man rest until every last person on this planet is liberated. Asé. The deconstructing race series will be continuing...
