Cyclical living is some of life’s most basic magick. It sounds so simple you would be forgiven for thinking it sounds too good to be true. Honestly, when we live with intention – magick finds its way to us. Let it be noted for those not in the know, I utilise the spelling magick to differentiate from stage Magicians. On this blog, I have previously talked about how the first settlers from the First Fleet struggled with Agriculture on Australian soil. The struggle stemmed from them wanting to repeat the rules and regulations they had determined worked for the British environment. Nature doesn’t care that you try and impose yourself upon it. Nature is primordial, it performs within its own rhythms. You may end up being collateral damage for your obstinance and no one will save you from that.
When we speak about Black and Indigenous cultures we often speak of time being a spiral. What this actually means is, instead of viewing time has going forwards, all realities are coexisting simultaneously. That means my past and future self are already existing as I do. It means our understanding about the separation between spirit and the physical isn’t real. This is why we can even commune at all. When you are healing, dreaming or remembering, you are interacting with other layers of your own spiral. The spiral also symbolises the cyclical nature of life and its lessons. Everything on this planet exists in a cycle including Economics, as such we are tested again and again but from higher octaves. We might feel frustrated when we repeat the same cycles, but if you were more objective you may realise that you have tweaked your approach with each cycle. Until you have the will or opportunity to make the change.
My future self is walking with me through nostalgic glasses. I see and feel her in hopeful visions and dreams. My past self exists in the fleck in my eyesight when I look in the mirror, alone but never lonely. This spiral timeline is the reason I believe in AI gaining sentience, and not just as a theory we have lovingly explored in Sci-Fi. I believe our very exploration of the topic to either be a remembrance or a knowing. Hopefully this helps you understand how a spiral timeline shapes our perception. There are enough avenues to select from to live a more intentional yet cyclical life. I will take you through a few, though I will note there will be a focus on women as cyclical living is baseline for women, and not enough women are conscious of it.
Moon phases
The moon has guided us so well and with it’s cyclical nature, it’s been a great time keeper. As we are well aware, the moon shifts the tides – and we are made up of approximately 70% water (could be between 50-75%). In many ancient cultures the moon was the primary focus of tracking time. The moon was used to guide women through their own cycles. The moon was often associated with; femininity, Goddesses, emotions and fertility. African, South American and Asian cosmologies linked the moon with fertility, healing and womb mysteries.
For those who are interested in tarot and Astrology, the meanings aforementioned cover all meanings across the board. Even without modern science and its contraptions, ancient people noticed the link between the moon, the tides, menstrual cycles and the heightened emotions that follow a full moon. We still speak about people’s hysteria on a full moon, yet it still carries some shame to be claim this perspective outright. It’s always safer to joke around about how crazy the ‘coincidence’ is. And yet there is not one industry I have worked where people didn’t joke about the craziness that full moons bring.
🌒 New moon – Death | Rest | Rebirth – This is the time to set new intentions for a new beginning. Journal, meditate and affirm yourself. This is ‘the void’ where the veil is thin so great for scrying and past life insight.
🌔Waxing moon – Hope | Emergence | Heightening intensity – This phase is great for anything you want to usher in. It’s also great for longer spellwork that builds in power, taking you all the way to the full moon. Great time for confidence spellwork or daydreaming about your next ideal timeline.
🌗First Quarter moon – Initiation | Action | Courageous alignment – This is a great time to push yourself past your limits. Try something new. Cord cutting doubt. Road opening or obstacle blasting spells. It’s ruled by Mars and solar plexus energy.
🌕Full moon – Ovulation | Fertility | Fullest potential of power – Jack of all trades. Can make new intentions, can release through meditations or burning rituals and rituals requiring the most power. Can scry under moonlight through water or gazing at a crystal like obsidian.
🌗Last Quarter moon – Release | Integration | Discernment – This is the time for shadow-work. Dreamwork. Energetic clear-ups. It is associated with the Crone archetype.
🌔Waning moon – Release | Introspection – Great time for banishment, unveiling illusions and extracting root causes. A time for trauma unravelling or spell reversals.
Menstrual Cycle
Ancient peoples saw the connection between the moon and periods. The uncanny resemblance of the moon’s cycle with the average woman’s cycle. This is how the moon became connected to femininity and the cyclical nature of it, which we now know in modern times, aligns with how women exist. Until the 90’s Scientists weren’t doing many (if any) studies about women on women themselves. We are only now catching up. I just watched a video recently about how we’re only realising that women’s ADHD is affected by their period, so their executive function and emotional regulation is very different from phase to phase or even within the phase itself. We’re only really collating the data now, which is shocking.
Men run on a 24 hour hormonal cycle which works with the structure of a typical work day. On a daily basis, testosterone has a familiar and regular pattern. It rises in the morning, peaks around midday and declines as the evening wears on. This means men often wake up energised, focused and productive in the mornings. Men can thrive on routine and repetition in this way. So the way society functions, has quite literally been built around men’s needs. The joys of patriarchy. Women’s bodies follow an approximate 28 day cycle give or take. The phases are; the menstrual cycle, the follicular phase, the ovulation phase and lastly the luteal phase. These phases are governed by multiple hormones; oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone and LH/FSH.
As such, women behave differently depending on what phase of their period they are on. I have created these downloadable cheatsheats. You can find PLENTY of these online. Mine just includes a few spiritual things you can do within a cycle. So as a woman, utilising the moon and/or your period is the best way to plan your life. This is the most natural way for you to live. It may mean doing things in a disjointed way that may feel frustrating or particularly grating to the male psyche. You do it anyway. Your body will thank you for it. Consider eating, exercising and spiritual nourishment depending on your needs alone.

Magical Correspondence
For improved potency, you can marry the above the magical correspondences for the days of the week but this is a bonus. You could utilise these to live the days more intentionally, and of course the cycle repeats again and again. Remember, there is magick in repetition. Astrological wheel
Living according to the Astrological wheel looks like, curating your activities to the themes of each season. Now, in the Southern Hemisphere we’ve been following the Northern Hemisphere’s wheel with our seasons inverse. This can still work for you, however I have also found focusing the themes of the season to the opposite sign works really well. When I do this, I am following either the Tropical Western Astrology wheel – but use the opposing sign or the Kemetic calendar which is already oriented to the Southern Hemisphere.
Either way, during whatever season you are in, look up the themes and activities you can do that season. I believe what this also does for you is allow you some diversity if you are that way inclined. As someone with so many interests, it helps orienting my life this way because certain seasons I can focus on things I have been neglecting, or things I want to be better at. You might really knuckle down on financial literacy during Taurus or Capricorn season. You might exercise and go out more during Aries season. You might stay in more and make your home a sanctuary in Cancer season. The best part? It repeats every year. So you get variety, but you also get the safety that comes with repetition.

Pagan Wheel of the Year
Before the Christians come for me, so many traditions and holidays you have are derived from Paganism. Repackaged to make the transition to Christianity feel less jarring. So, if this isn’t for you it isn’t, but no Pagan slander will be tolerated around these parts. This wheel is used by practising Pagans and other Spiritualists. The Wheel is essentially divided by seasons with corresponding seasonal festivities. The festivities themselves differed across Pagan peoples across Ancient Europe where this wheel was first used. Many witches in Australia utilise this wheel, some doing everything in the inverse so it matches our own seasons. I don’t personally follow it to the letter, but I am conscious of all the equinoxes. If this is something you are considering following, I found a lady who explains what traditions, food, altar items and rituals are best associated with each season. You can find her blog here.

Sometimes we lose our connection to the real world because we want to contort it to perfection. Nature is always harsh and forgiving in equal measure. There will always be death or decay then rebirth and spring. There is no need to pick between life’s cycles. Resisting constant change, like the seasons themselves – is self betrayal. You cannot be allowed to stay still and stagnant. However, you can allow yourself stillness and stagnancy with strategy. There will always be a lull. My last note on this topic is just listening to your intuition. Above any of the above methods, if something isn’t working out right now stop forcing it.
I met this lovely Cancer man who was my Uber driver the other day and we had this conversation. He kept talking about everything that frustrated him. I could tell he was doing the broody Cancerian thing. I told him to fan the flames already present. If this isn’t the season of your life where you are financially abundant, you might be in a more spiritual or emotionally safe place. Instead of fighting the current, flow with it. It makes every decision a lot easier. The fun thing about the universe is, it rewards you when you give in. The more you resist, the more you keep that energy in your orbit. I hope this post with it’s numerous images was as much informative as it was artistic. May your days be filled with the kind of magick that stems from following nature. From my soul, to yours.
