Allow me to do what I do best, blend spirituality with personal observations to weave a lifeline. As a woman who has been told I intimidate men since I can remember, let me tell you why that is a good thing and why you should too. If you’ve ever been in a room with me, watched me go head to head with a man (even my superior hierarchically) and ever been uncomfortable in your body – consider that you subconsciously defer to men. There is a place in you that believes men are right simply by existing. That by disrupting them through questioning their motives and intent, you are committing a social sin. This is a sign of programming.
I will never be rude to a man to prove a point. However I will always ask further questions. How is it normal to just receive information or instruction without interrogating it further? Especially when you witness or feel injustice occurring. If your male friend, boss or father wants you to perform a task and you know a better way – question them. You have a right to speak up. You have a right to not swallow a pill as it was provided to you. You have a right to say, that actually doesn’t make any logical sense. You are allowed to point out to men you know that they have contradicted themselves. Oh, I have and I would tomorrow. Words mean things, people.
Women naturally make space for others. That’s a natural, maternal aspect of womanhood. However through patriarchy (and all the other systems), you are programmed to make yourself smaller. The subconscious belief underlying is a belief that men are better than women. If you do not face this possibility within yourself you will never free yourself from the shackles of men’s approval. A man is just another human being like you. The amount of times I have interceded for women when they want to ask a man a question but are too shy – whether professionally or romantically – is astronomical and it always has been. Let me get into the astrology behind why I think I engage with men as peers and not superiors.
I am a Libra sun and Libra is a masculine sign. Masculine in astrology or esoterically refers to the following traits; assertiveness, outward expression, activeness and outgoingness. So, do not be fooled by a Libra’s feminine outer expression. They have a masculine intellect. They are equally as cunning and with the Saturn exaltation – Librans were born to clock and correct men in real time. This works best when Librans are evolved. When I have met women with feminine sun signs; earth signs and water signs, I have noticed more of a deference to men. Now if this is a comfortable state of mind for you, then my inner feminist is happy for you. However, if you don’t like this trait in yourself, then I urge you to stop thinking of men as more deserving of your respect than the next woman.
We will not achieve equality, if we do not collectively dismantle that belief. Learn about men from a scientific perspective if that helps. I’ve picked up some body language tips over the years that I use when I speak to men. Actually a tip I always give women that I meet in real life is mirroring men’s posture. Men have all these power stances they like to do. It’s really fun replicating it and I think it subconsciously conjures respect (that’s my personal take).
Remember the line, a crush is just a lack of information. Once you start seeing men as equivalent to the women that you feel free to critique, then you are well on your way to liberation. When we are unaware of subconscious programming, we are unaware that we are unliberated in the mind. This can be very shocking when you start unpacking it, so I extend my empathy to you. Please journal, talk to a trusted friend, meditate and just allow yourself time to work through it. You do not need to figure anything out today. You do not have to save the world. All you need to do, is have conviction and self trust. May your healing journeys be much needed catharsis.
